Why you will love this recipe
Nutrition: This high-protein chocolate mousse packs 28g of protein per serving. It can even be part of your everyday breakfast.
Taste: Chocolatey, silky, and smooth texture makes it indulgent and satisfying, just like traditional chocolate mousse.
Ease: Made with just four ingredients and comes together in seconds, perfect for busy people who want a quick, healthy treat.
Customizable: For a variety of topping options, see the list below.
Ingredients needed
Cottage cheese: it's the main ingredient and the protein star of the show. I use and prefer full fat because I like the taste better but you can use low-fat cottage cheese. You can substitute it with paneer, which comes in pressed blocks rather than curds, but keep in mind that it has a higher fat content than cottage cheese.
Cocoa powder: or cacao powder - see the FAQ section to know the difference-.
Maple syrup: In this recipe I used dark maple syrup but you can use any sweetener of choice such as: honey, stevia, monk fruit, date syrup ..etc
Vanilla extract: it enhances the chocolatey flavor in the mousse. You can replace it with some instant coffee powder or a teaspoon of espresso coffee.
How to make Cottage Cheese Chocolate Mousse
Step 1 - Add the cottage cheese to a high-speed blender or food processor and blend for a minute or until smooth.
Step 2- Add the rest of the ingredients and blend for another minute.
Alternatively, you can put everything in the blender or food processor and blend for two minutes scraping down the side every now and then.
You can either let the high protein chocolate mousse sit or serve it straight away with your favorite toppings.
Tips and recipe variations
Scrape down the blender or food processor from time to time.
Taste and adjust the sweetness to your liking.
Immersion blender can also work in this recipe if you don't have a high speed blender.
If you want more protein you can add chocolate protein powder but you will need to add some milk as well.
You can replace unsweetened cocoa powder with powdered peanut butter.
You can replace cottage cheese with Greek yogurt or even make it 50/50.
For a more indulgent treat you can add heavy cream to the cottage cheese - in the first step of the recipe-. this will also make extra Keto friendly.

Frequently asked questions
Yes you can, but in this case it won't be called cottage cheese chocolate mousse. It will be called cottage cheese matcha mousse.
The base of the recipe requires cottage cheese, a sweetener and a thickener. The sweetener can be maple syrup, honey, monk fruit, sugar ...etc the thickener can be powdered peanut butter, cocoa powder, almond flour, protein powder, flax seeds, chia seeds ..etc
Cocoa is the processed form, while cacao is the raw version. Raw cacao tends to have a more intense, chocolatey flavor and is slightly more bitter, while cocoa powder, being processed (often with added sugars or alkalized to reduce bitterness), can have a milder, sweeter taste.
